About Jim BakerJim Baker was introduced on the April Fool's program in 1987. He is not real. I made him up. Baker's Blue Jay Barn is not real. I got the name from the Mark Twain short story, "Baker's Blue Jay Yarn." That is also why I had to name my character Jim Baker, after the character in the story. If anyone figured this out by himself or herself, please let me know. It's been a kind of private joke for me, but it isn't much of a joke if not one person on the planet got it. "Up the Shore a Ways" is a real place, but no one knows exactly how far up the shore it is.
The voice of Jim Baker is provided by the multi-talented John Keenan, Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Duluth, who really does play the bagpipes. If you look carefully, you can even see him marching in the parade near the beginning of the Disney movie "Iron Will." John once got his head bloodied by a Blue Jay when he was photographing her on her nest. He also once fixed my toilet (no jokes about his name being John, now!) and he's one of the rare people on the planet who doesn't like chocolate chip cookie dough. John plays Jim Baker as a volunteer for a volunteer.
